drawn by lightfall
time
creeps through
the shadow doorway
tipping scales

i sit still on
embroidered cushions
struck by the restlessness
of my brief sojourn
quietly
putting leaves in line

the floodlit light of heaven
has already been sold and
i'd wish the ferment of must
to remain on my tongue

dreams dreamed backwards
flow slowly through
cold tea spilled
as stars move
across the canopy
of foreign homes

the sphinx on the sofa
is growling in her sleep
beside her, resting,
moments of respite

always
always you must write
the last three letters of my name
upside down
with a blue note
and a rose
between your teeth

poetry
